Dear God (Oluseyi)

Dear God,

I am in need of direction.  I am not sure if I have lost my way but I feel if I haven’t then I am certainly close to losing it.
Please guide me.
I am also worried about a lot of things. My heart is heavy. The load of family issues,  school issues and life issues in general is stressing my heart muscles.
I am tired of acting like I am happy and everything is well. I want to genuinely smile because everything is indeed okay.
Thank you for all you have done, all You are doing and all that You are yet to do.

Seyi.

Fire!

Picture this.
You’re playing with a match box, randomly lighting and then discarding one match stick after the other.
You continue till you eventually get tired and move to another room to sleep.
While you’re sleeping, you start to smell smoke in your dream. All of a sudden, you realise it’s not just a dream; you’re actually smelling smoke. Walk back into the other room, the entire room is on fire.

Fire. Let’s talk about fire.
I was going to define fire, but I don’t even have an adequate definition. We’ll leave that aside anyway.
However, I’ll tell you what fire does.

1. Fire starts little.
A little matchstick is all it took. So you casually dropped a matchstick and left. And that matchstick produced a fire of great proportions. Such humble beginnings.
And so it is with us Christians. A little tweet, a casual conversation with a Bible verse chipped on, your whatsapp status, The way you carry yourself like a child of God.
These are little matchsticks that can ignite a mighty fire in the lives of the people around you. So wherever you go, whatever you do, make sure to leave a little matchstick. And watch God give the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6)

2. Fire grows only in the presence of oxygen and a fuel.
That little matchstick would have died a tiny speck of light had it not been for the presence of oxygen, as well as a fuel.
There had to be oxygen and fuel propelling the tiny speck of light into something bigger. The fire needed them to grow.
The same applies to every child of God. The word of God is the oxygen we need for our fire to grow.
Prayer (communicating with God) is the fuel behind our fires.
Without these two things, your fire will not grow. Your fire will be put out, or remain in a state of dormancy.
Kindle your fire today. Pray, Read your Bible. And watch your fire grow. (1 Peter 2:2)

3. Fire consumes gradually, but completely.
A fire takes over. As the fire built up in the room, it went from the rug, to the table, the vase, the books and then to the picture frames on the wall. It did not decide that the flower vase was too beautiful to consume, or that the picture on the wall was too precious to consume. Fire consumes gradually, yet wholly and completely.
When the fire of God is within you, it turns your life around. There is a complete sanctification, and renewal.
Sanctification, however, is a process. It starts little, but keeps going. Keeps growing till it reaches the very depth of your heart. It keeps going till you are moulded completely into a vessel of honour.
The fire of God doesn’t just stop half way if it’s being maintained. It keeps going. It burns completely till the end. (Hebrews 12:29)

Bonus Point: A fire cannot be hidden.
I love this part. You cannot hide a fire under a rock. A fire will smell from afar, it’s light will shine from afar. It will be on display. Everyone will be able to see it. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Let your light shine. Let your fire burn. Let people give glory to God because of your fire.

I pray that we will fulfill our calling as the light of the world. I pray that the fire of God will be ignited within our spirits. And I pray that we will cause the people around us to be ignited by our fires. I pray that you and I will be among the army the Lord is raising of young men and women on fire for Him. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Peace and love!

Dear God (Oriana)

Dear God,

It’s been a while.
I’ve just been feeling so bleehh lately and I know that I should have come to you before now but I didn’t know how.
I mean, your daughter is going through it, like really going through at the moment.
The temptation is suffocating, I’m about to lose my mind. I
need your peace. I need the silence so I can hear from You.
I feel like our connection is slowly disintegrating and I hate it.
Dad please come through for me, I can’t do it on my own.

Your Beloved,
Oriana

Dear God (RSI)

Dear God,
You know who’s writing to you.
I really need to let this out, you are my best friend. And you’re like the best, best friend ever.
I’m sure you already know about this boy, but I’m still going to tell you about him anyway.
He’s now my ex boyfriend, how I wish that wasn’t a fact.
I know we did disappoint you a couple of times in our acts, and I sincerely apologise for that.
But honestly, I just want to thank you for what you have made me realise. For finally letting me know my worth. And for showing me that I deserve much more.
Our break up would probably be the toughest thing right now, but that’s why I’ve got you.
Oh, I love you so much, cause you’ve just got me forever. Help me till the time is right, to find another.
I love you Lord. I really really do.

Yours,
Rsi x

The Dear God Series

The Dear God Series

I’m going to be starting a new series on the blog titled “Dear God”s

Basically, a couple of contributors are going to be sharing heartfelt letters written to God here.

Why are we doing this?

There is something about our mindset on prayer. A lot of people feel like if you’re going to pray to God, you have to obey a lot of protocol, and use a lot of very official and formal words. We approach prayer and talking to God like we’re speaking to our President instead of to our best friend. But God really is our Friend. He’s our loving Father and so He wants us to speak to Him in that accord.

When you write letters to God, it personalizes everything. Now you’re writing to your Loving Father, to your Best Friend. The words flow out. Sometimes you find that you cannot stop writing.

This is the point of the Dear God series.

Because we are tired of prayers that are only “Forgive me God, I ask you for *insert your latest want here* God, Thank you God.

We we want to go from that to “Dear God, I’ve had an awesome day today. I even met a new friend today, I hope she turns out to be a great person… (and it goes on)

We want to have a REAL conversation. A MEANINGFUL conversation. An INSIGHTFUL conversation with our Father.

It is my prayer that God uses this to teach us how to communicate effectively with Him in Jesus name, Amen!
