Fire!

Picture this.
You’re playing with a match box, randomly lighting and then discarding one match stick after the other.
You continue till you eventually get tired and move to another room to sleep.
While you’re sleeping, you start to smell smoke in your dream. All of a sudden, you realise it’s not just a dream; you’re actually smelling smoke. Walk back into the other room, the entire room is on fire.

Fire. Let’s talk about fire.
I was going to define fire, but I don’t even have an adequate definition. We’ll leave that aside anyway.
However, I’ll tell you what fire does.

1. Fire starts little.
A little matchstick is all it took. So you casually dropped a matchstick and left. And that matchstick produced a fire of great proportions. Such humble beginnings.
And so it is with us Christians. A little tweet, a casual conversation with a Bible verse chipped on, your whatsapp status, The way you carry yourself like a child of God.
These are little matchsticks that can ignite a mighty fire in the lives of the people around you. So wherever you go, whatever you do, make sure to leave a little matchstick. And watch God give the increase. (1 Corinthians 3:6)

2. Fire grows only in the presence of oxygen and a fuel.
That little matchstick would have died a tiny speck of light had it not been for the presence of oxygen, as well as a fuel.
There had to be oxygen and fuel propelling the tiny speck of light into something bigger. The fire needed them to grow.
The same applies to every child of God. The word of God is the oxygen we need for our fire to grow.
Prayer (communicating with God) is the fuel behind our fires.
Without these two things, your fire will not grow. Your fire will be put out, or remain in a state of dormancy.
Kindle your fire today. Pray, Read your Bible. And watch your fire grow. (1 Peter 2:2)

3. Fire consumes gradually, but completely.
A fire takes over. As the fire built up in the room, it went from the rug, to the table, the vase, the books and then to the picture frames on the wall. It did not decide that the flower vase was too beautiful to consume, or that the picture on the wall was too precious to consume. Fire consumes gradually, yet wholly and completely.
When the fire of God is within you, it turns your life around. There is a complete sanctification, and renewal.
Sanctification, however, is a process. It starts little, but keeps going. Keeps growing till it reaches the very depth of your heart. It keeps going till you are moulded completely into a vessel of honour.
The fire of God doesn’t just stop half way if it’s being maintained. It keeps going. It burns completely till the end. (Hebrews 12:29)

Bonus Point: A fire cannot be hidden.
I love this part. You cannot hide a fire under a rock. A fire will smell from afar, it’s light will shine from afar. It will be on display. Everyone will be able to see it. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Let your light shine. Let your fire burn. Let people give glory to God because of your fire.

I pray that we will fulfill our calling as the light of the world. I pray that the fire of God will be ignited within our spirits. And I pray that we will cause the people around us to be ignited by our fires. I pray that you and I will be among the army the Lord is raising of young men and women on fire for Him. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

Peace and love!
